I was free today, so I went back to Bukit Timah Food Center again. I will skip the introduction of this place since I did it during the last post.
Bukit Timah Food Center Part 2: Fried Carrot Cake

Cheap and Nice!
Penang Char Kway Teow
Hungry for some authentic Penang food but don't know where to find? Try this one:
The cook really knows how to fry delicious kway teow. Firstly, the ingredients are really fresh, like seriously. For example, I who always hate the taste of cockles, could also eat them all, just because they are free of the usual heavy taste. The prawns are also big, juicy, and taste like they are just caught from the sea. Awesome fresh taste. Now to the kway teow part. The kway teow they use are the small and thin kind, and they are really springy, and also deliciously cooked. The texture of the kway teow is what you always expect a wok-fry zi cha to be. Words just could not describe the taste of the food itself. Heavenly.

Chicken Rice @ Bukit Timah Food Center
Bukit Timah Food Center, a place where good food resides. It is quite conveniently located near Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Many students will often eat here when they have long break time as well. The place was refurbished and all stalls are down for business for quite a while, it is finally back.
The famous chicken rice stall. $3.50. Always having one of the longest queue, mostly office workers who will order large amounts of chicken rice for take-away. The queue is really slow, I queued for around 15 minutes that day. But when I tasted it, I felt that it is really worth the amount of time for queuing. I ordered the steamed chicken as I wanted to taste the original taste of the chicken and added two braised eggs (50 cents each).
Taste: The chicken meat is really succulent and tender, while still maintaining the original taste of chicken. I feel what makes the chicken so tasty is their secret ingredient, the sauce. The sauce is usually a mixture of chicken oil as well as soy-sauce, but the sauce is so flavorful and it goes really well with the chicken pieces. The sauce is added the last and poured onto the chicken pieces together with the chinese parsley which gives the chicken a touch of freshness. The braised eggs are well braised, probably for a long time as it absorbed the soy sauce mixture in the process of cooking.
Conclusion: To sum it up, the chicken rice was awesome, definitely a lot better than many stores up there. Taste it to believe it. It is also value for money and the amount of chicken given is quite generous, I still have plenty of chicken after finishing the rice. Try this out!

Craving for Instant Noodles?
Ratings: Definitely worth the try!

Time for some dessert! :D

Simply Curry! Ngee Ann's own curry stall!
Curry, anyone? The curry from this stall is really good, especially the curry chicken. The chicken itself is tender and generously given, a good portion for those big eater like me. The potatoes are considered an extra bonus to the curry, as it is chewy and also not overcooked. As for the curry, it is thick enough and the fragrance itself makes even my friend wanted to try some of it. Good food.
The stall also sell buns that gives you a taste of childhood all over again. Simply love these buns. What's more, the price for it is just $1 for 3 of these crispy and irresistible food! So head down to makanplace @ np to try the curry today!
Rating: It's simply currylicious!
Crispy Fish Alfredo - Hungry Jack Part 2
To fix my craving on pastas earlier this week during my break, I went back to Hungry Jack @ Makan Place. This time round, I ordered something different...
Chicken Cutlet Set!
Saizeriya Ristorante E Caffe @ Bukit Timah Plaza [Part 2]
As mentioned by the last post, this restaurant is cheap and and affordable. Free flow of drinks for just an extra $1.50, tasty food, makes it an ideal place for the students to dine in.
When served, it is surprisingly that the cook did a good job arranging the clams in such a manner. It looks pretty delicious and really, the food is not bad after all. The clams tasted fresh and is generously given, and the soup is just right in flavor. Mushrooms are also quite flavor-enhancing, providing an unique taste to the dish. However, what it lacks is the taste of the spaghetti, which is pretty plain for a soup spaghetti. But overall, it is still a worthy dish to try, and also do consider it's generous amount of clams!
Rating: Worth trying!
Focaccia Garlic Bread ($2.20)
The food looks pretty plain when it is being served, but trust me, it is really a good substitute when the prata are not around. At first bite, it tasted like a normal bread, just that it is a fresh, hot and fluffy one that really gives you the feeling of happiness. The garlic part at the middle tasted like those garlic breads served in french restaurants, so it is really good.
Rating: Definitely a heartwarming dish!
Picnic Ham Sandwich (Atrium)
Saizeriya Ristorante E Caffe @ Bukit Timah Plaza
This Italian restaurant located at Bukit Timah Plaza also offers students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic another option for dining in. The food here is affordable as GST and Service Charge are not charged, making it an ideal place for students. With a top up of $1.50, you can enjoy free flow of drinks. A wide variety of drinks are available from fruit juices and fizzy drinks to hot beverages. However, do not expect high quality food.
Cheesy chicken steak with pork, $8.20. All my friends recommended me to try this out when I first dined here. Basically, this dish consists of a cheesy chicken steak, some flavorful pork, a few slices of baked potato and some fresh corn; all topped with a delicious gravy. The highlight here is the chicken steak, it is really thick and juicy. Okay, here's the verdict.
Taste: The chicken steak wasvery well cooked; due to it's factor that it is thick and it can prevent lose of juices during cooking. However, it lacks a little bit of seasoning. It tastes flavorful only on the outside which is the skin, no doubt it still remains juicy in the inside. The pork is very well-seasoned but the portion given is rather small. Only a few thin slices of baked potatoes are given, it tastes average as well. The dark roux meat sauce is what that really gives the dish it's flavor; it is slightly sweet and it really goes really well with chicken and potatoes.>
Squid ink pasta, $5.80, one of the few interesting dishes on the menu. So, I decided to try this out. As it's name suggests, it is pasta with squid ink as the sauce. It doesn't look very appetizing; dull and black as compared to other pastas.
Taste: For those who have never tried squid ink/paste before, it tastes like squid and rather "fishy". Unless you love seafood, otherwise you might not want to try this out. The pasta is quite bland, you can only taste the saltiness of the squid ink and pretty much nothing else. A stingy portion of squid is given in the pasta; thankfully the squid is not overcooked.
P.S. You wouldn't want to eat this on your first date or when your crush is around. Unless you want your crush to look at your black lips and your stained teeth when you smile at them.
Conclusion: The portions given for some dishes can be quite little. Overall, it is quite value for money. Do try out the chicken steak with pork, highly recommended!

Grilled Chicken Carbonara
Looking for good western cuisine dishes such as pastas and steaks? Yes, you are on the right site, right post.
The Grilled Chicken Carbonara is probably one of the dishes that most people will purchase at the stall Hungry Jack located at Makan Place. There is also another variation of this dish which is served with meatballs; pick your meat well.
The queue is usually not very long as compared to other stores during peak hours as the waiting time for the food is very long. After you have ordered your dish, you can see the chefs cooking only after receiving your order. This is why the food at this stall is so tasty, it is only prepared after you have placed your order. It is definitely worth waiting for good food. However, the price of this dish costs $5.50. It is slightly expensive but it is definitely worth the price; it is okay to indulge once in a while. Pasta up-size is also available with an additional of $1.
Taste: I'm a fan of cream-based pasta sauce, so this was one of the few dishes that I first tried out from the stall. The sauce is full of flavor, rich and very creamy. The chopped herbs definitely enhanced the flavor of the sauce too. I prefer a thicker sauce; sometimes the sauce can be quite watery when the chef doesn't drain the pasta for a longer time. The chicken's skin is also very well seasoned and crispy. Sometimes, the chicken can be slightly overcooked. If you are lucky, you will get to chew onto a perfectly cooked-pink chunk of chicken.
Overall, this was one of my favorite stalls and dish in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. As a freshmen of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I was very surprised that I could find such good food here. The price of this dish is slightly expensive but it is still affordable and can be on par or even better than some other pasta outlets. So delicious, so try it out! Definitely recommended!
Here is an instructional video on how to cook your own carbonara at home:
Kaki Fuyong
When you are in Makanplace in Ngeeann Poly(NP), be sure to check out the stall Japanese Cuisine for their famous dish known as Kaki Fuyong. It consists of just a simple egg omelette on a hot plate, sauced up and then finish it with a few dices of crispy chicken.
Even though the dish looks simple and plain, the food is deliciously good, resulting in its ever staying popularity level among the students. For example, the omelette itself is not that simple. It tasted salty, yet sweet at the same time. One reason could be the sauce, in which enhanced the fragrances of the dish by ten fold. The chicken itself tasted awesomely good, with a sweet and crunchy feeling tingling in your mouth. With a bowl of rice to complete the dish and the set costing at a affordable price of $3.50, this is one thing you should not miss.
Hence if you have any extra time to spare, head down to NP to try it out today!
